ST. GEORGE’S GRENADA, Friday, November 04, 2011: At the CARICOM Energy and Trade Ministers’ 35th Special Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) Meeting, held on March 24, 2011, in Guyana, approval was granted for the staging of an Energy Week in member territories.

In this regard, Grenada will stage its Energy Week from November 6th – 11th, 2011.

Grenada’s theme for the week: is “ Creating A Sustainable Grenada through Renewable and Efficient Energy Use.”

The planned activities for the Energy Week will focus on the promotion of Energy efficient appliances and devices, renewable energy and energy conservation fundamentally.

The activities are as follows:

Week of activities:

1. SUNDAY – November 6th, 2011 Declaration address on all Media Minister responsible for Energy Hon. V. Nazim Burke

2. MONDAY – November 7th, 2011 GIS Spice Morning – Origin of Caricom Energy Week – Outline of weeks activities – Ongoing competition (Secondary schools, National Jingle competition)

Beyond the Headlines Panel Discussion on Renewable Energy

3. TUESDAY – November 8th, 2011 Energy Awareness Day Presentation to primary and pre- primary schools

4. WEDNESDAY- November 9th, 2011 Energy And You Interview with cross section of persons in society and their perspective on energy, energy efficiency, energy conservation (Housewife, office worker (private & public sector, student, bus driver) – to be aired on television.

5. THURSDAY – November 10th, 2011 Energy Efficiency Seminar for Drivers

6. FRIDAY – November 11th, 2011 KILL-A-WATT DAY Exhibition at the Financial Complex Parking Lot (Energy Service Companies (ESCO’s) devices and energy appliances, school projects)

NB. The hardware stores such as Jonas Browne and Hubbard (G’da) Ltd. and SP’s International Trading Ltd. will have energy saving appliance shelves set up for the entire week.
